Manufacturing Method

Using mixed C4 fraction after butadiene extraction as raw material, then hydrolyzing to produce tert-butanol, which is desorbed by steam, separated from water, and refined to obtain the final product. Alternatively, the mixed C4 fraction and soft water undergo hydration in the presence of a cation exchange resin to produce tert-butanol, which is then separated into layers and concentrated to obtain tert-butanol.

Applications

Solvent for molecular weight determination and reference material for chromatographic analysis. Additionally, it is often used as a substitute for n-butanol as a solvent in coatings and pharmaceuticals. Used as an additive in internal combustion engine fuels (to prevent carburetor icing) and as an anti-knock agent. As an intermediate in organic synthesis and an alkylating raw material for the production of tert-butyl compounds, it can be used to produce tert-butylphenol, tert-butylamine, etc., for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and fragrances. Dehydration of tert-butanol can yield isobutylene with a purity of 99.0% to 99.9%.
